Customer reviewsUnforgiving Materials
I ordered two of these nightstands and a dresser made by the same company without reading any of the reviews about difficulty with assembly. Then I read the reviews and started to get worried. But as I dug through them I saw enough positive reviews to give me hope for these products. There are always a few salty people who just aren't happy with anything that drop bad reviews on every product. The three pieces arrived today and I was pleased to find the boxes seemed really heavy. which I hoped indicated that the materials weren't as lightweight as some of the reviews implied. After lugging the boxes up a flight of stairs I started unpacking them and found the boxes themselves and the flat packing method used to ship them sort of difficult to unpack. Even being able to remove the pieces from the boxes was seeming harder than normal. Not a great start. But still I had hope. I decided to start small but putting together one of the nightstands. Got everything unpacked and familiarized myself with the instructions and got to work. Everything seemed pretty simple and was going alright. But I couldn't help bu feel like the hardware used to actually put the body of the nightstand together just wasn't secure. It seemed like a hard breeze might blow it over. But I thought surely it would be sturdier once it was finished and all the locking pieces were tightened, right Wrong. Because I made one small mistake, as I was turning the nightstand to get a better angle on putting a bolt in the whole thing slipped and fell, tipping over and landing on the floor. In the process ALL of the hardward holding it together was yanked out of the particle board and the shelf snapped in one place leaving an exposed "screw". I put "screw" in quotation marks because it's something like a screw but not an actual screw. You don't screw it in, you just push it in and turn it....not exactly secure. Sadly the screw but not screws and dowels were secure enough to strip the holes they were attached to when they fell. Now I don't think this nightstand is usable at all. There's really nothing holding it together. But it kinda felt like there was never anything holding it together. I realize part of this was due to making a mistake and the nightstand tipping over. But the materials are totally unforgiving when it comes to user error. And there is always bound to be some amount of user error when assembling furniture. Now I'm contemplating returning the other nightstand and the dresser and not even attempting to assemble them. Not sure what I'll end up doing.
