I ve been successfully doing bokashi composting for a couple years. I ve built my own composter out of an old 3 gallon Igloo drink cooler and it works great. I was looking for something else with a bit more capacity so I could have an active rotation going. I was out of EM-1 and was looking at bokashi bran and saw this thing on sale for 34 bucks with a 2 gallon bag of bran. So at basically 20 bucks for the system it was worth the gamble. Well at least I thought. I had read the review about the dog eating the bokashi and saw the pics of what it did to the bucket. I should of known then that this system is flawed. IF this was air sealed and created a true anaerobic environment then the dog wouldn t of smelled the bokashi in the bucket. So, after 2 weeks of allowing this system to do it s thing I was surprised when I popped the lid and saw NO white fuzz, smelt no sweet tangyness, no signs what so ever that the composting had even begun on the upper layers. I snapped the lid shut, checked the seal and noticed that one of the sides, the one that s designed to be lifted up on to open the bucket, was not sealing shut. How could the manufacturer expect this to be an under the counter bokashi set-up if opening it causes the lid to deform in a way that it no longer seals There s no rubber gasket in the lid or anything to help with the actual sealing. Its not like I was stress testing it or anything either. I only opened it once, the first time, did my thing and then shut it. Anyways I m trying a 2x4 across the top with a weight on it. Hopefully that helps the bucket maintain it s seal. For the 20 I can turn it into something useful but it won t be a bokashi composter. I ll stick with my Igloo cooler and would recommend you look elsewhere for a better bokashi system.Read full 154 ratings for SCD Probiotics All Seasons Indoor Composter, Easy Start Countertop Kitchen Compost Bin with Bokashi – Easily Compost Indoors, Low Odor, Beginner Friendly K200 Black, Recycled Plastic, 5 gal at Amazon Reviews
