What to know before you buy Gecko Chasing Dragonflie
Geckos are reptiles and are found on all the continents except Antarctica. These colorful lizards have adapted to habitats from rain forests, to deserts, to cold mountain slopes. Over a long period of time, geckos have developed special physical features to help them survive and avoid predators. This sculpture has been finished with a clear enamel coating, which will protect it from the elements. However, if it is displayed outdoors, we recommend applying a spray-on clear coat in order to maintain it's fresh-out-of the box look. Five minutes once a year is all it takes. Is this what you need when you buy Gecko Chasing Dragonflie?
I began working in Haiti over 19 years ago with the goal of fighting poverty through art. During that time, we have worked with as many as 120 artists, cultivating business relationships, and building friendships. We have learned the good that comes from Fair Trade. Because of our firm belief in Fair Trade and its practice, every sale we make of metal art makes a positive impact on the artist who produces it. Those benefits flow through the whole workshop and create prosperity for their own family, workers and apprentices, and ultimately, the entire village. We are proud to be a part of that and we hope that as you admire your new piece of handcrafted, recycled folk art you will feel a bit of that pride as well. Casey Riddell
This Haitian garden gecko wall hanging is completely hand cut from a flattened 55 gallon steel oil drum with all of the details for the piece expertly worked, with hammer and chisel, into a beautiful piece of collector quality Haitian steel drum art. Haitian steel drum metal art wall decor. A piece that you will be proud to show in your home.
Each beautiful recycled metal sculpture is made my hand. Starting with a cast-off 55 gallon steel drum, the metal is cleaned, sanded, and pounded flat.
The artist chalks his design onto the metal. Then he begins the heavy, tedious work of cutting out the pattern with a hammer and chisel, which will give the piece detail and dimension. Finally, the artist applies a clear coat to the piece, which protects it and makes it perfectly suited for indoor and outdoor display.
We believe the the biggest benefit of a market based system such as Fair Trade is that it works with the marketplace, enabling financial reward for our artists and being of value to the consumer. As such, its is sustainable. Not just for a moment, not just for a day or a week, but for a lifetime and beyond.
