A bit about Zen..
Thanks for landing here for a moment on your walkabout, or webabout as the case may be. I was given a special name, Benefiel, as a result of my adoption. I didn’t realize just how special it was at first. I found out nearly a quarter century later that it means ‘good fidelity.’ That awareness came at a critical time in my life. It helped define who I was to become and had already made an impact even in my unawareness.
Many years later, I hosted a television show called One World where we explored rising above fear and separation to find unity in diversity. We produced over 100 shows over a three year period in the early 90s and some can now be seen here. Turning toward community activism and with a small budget, I produced the promo for a new community action-focused show called ‘Who?’ below. It’s theme was to feature those in the community who actively engage best practices and future-thinking toward collaborative endeavors that promote harmony, a new living awareness that was evolving in small pockets of society then.
Over a decade prior I had a near death experience as a teenager after praying to know what truth is and willing to give up my life if necessary. I was asked by a familiar voice if I was willing to die for what I believed in. I did and literally went into the ‘Light’ for several moments, then beyond for a few more surrounded by points of light, receiving information few have ever had the chance to garner, let alone apply. I was told I’m to work with those points of light to facilitate a new world order in my lifetime, one of harmony among people and planet.
A lot happened there and I remember it vividly, along with many other experiences along my spiritual journey and professional endeavors. My adoption continues to offer the humility of being no one special, given up by my biological parents and experiencing the emotional imprinting of abandonment that plagued my life for a lot of years. I am able to get really vulnerable and speak authentically, having learned how to turn challenge into change that often results in transforming one’s life.
I still had the deep question: Who Am I? for decades, but one night in June of 1988 I got the answer in a most unusual way. I was sitting with a friend (15 years my senior) after attending a full moon meditation. Our conversation feel quiet and I went inside and asked the question, “Who am I?” I instantly heard his chair move, opened my eyes and turned to look at him. His first words were, “You are Zendor,” as if he had been inside my head. Two years later I used the name as a subtitle for One World and about six shows in one of the guys on the crew called me Zen and it stuck. The entire crew ran with it, so who am I to refuse? It took some time to settle in with it, though.
It took me decades – orphaned, adopted, college, time in a psyche ward and recovery from Thorazine, a marriage, children, divorce, grandchildren, constant faith in earning opportunities, facilitating discussion groups, intimate relationships, a self-discovery television show, degrees in Business, ministerial ordination, accomplishments in a variety of industries and coming to terms with being a son of a dynamic duo associated with the Galactic Federation – to fully realize I truly have something valuable to share in helping others transform into happier and fulfilling lifestyles. Yeah, that last one has me spun sideways at times, too.
Also in the early 90s I had a creative impulse in my personal transformation that turned into a rather humorous presentation that served as a live metaphor for transformation in a larger sense. I’ve been honored to share it at several events and conferences over the years. Below is the second ‘performance;’ the first was at a gathering at Louis Russo’s home in central Phoenix. Ariel Wolf, now transcended, sat in the back of the room of about 50 people rolling pennies up the center isle with each piece of clothing. You’ll see what I mean. After his appearance on One World and appearing on his radio show, he invited me to ‘perform’ in a larger venue. Louis introduces me at one of his Mystic Moment events in a converted church. There were an extension of his local radio show.
You can imagine the challenge I’ve had articulating my understanding from the experiences I continue to have, let alone applying it in my life on a day-to-day basis. I find excitement and inspiration as I am engaged by what seems to be a form of quantum entanglement.
Everything we need to affect change in our lives is within us already, we just have to ask better questions and listen more deeply for the answers. If you are ready to listen to yourself, that deepest part of you, we’ve got a chance. That is where, imho, we will find the methods and capacity for transformation of our world. Finding harmony in the chaos happens when we choose to find the harmony within ourselves and share our dreams and visions.
Considerations for the “I” focus… before I fade into the shadows. 🙂

“Zen Benefiel is a man of great ideas and passion. You will never find Zen in a box ~ “Out of the Box” thinking is one of his best attributes. He is a wonderful motivational speaker and workshop leader. A few years ago I had the opportunity to bring him in to work with a staff of 15 people for Team Building. He did an outstanding job ~ so much so we still use the information as a benchmark for communication.”

*”I consider Zen to be one of those superlative examples of what the human brain can store and serve up in unique and appealing ways at will on most any occasion or assignment. To say his range of knowledge and interests are “eclectic” is engaging in understatement. And this is what makes his services as a “possibilities coagulator” for his clients so valuable and exciting. Smart fellow! Great ally!”

A most recent presentation from the International Association for Near Death Studies is featured below. It took 35 years to go from being ostracized to having folks want to hear about my event and more. I’m honored and humbled and look forward to sharing even more.
Speaking of sharing more, there is yet another side to my life. One that most people would be reluctant to share, but its my story and I’m sticking to it. The video below is my introduction as part of a panel of folks addressing extraterrestrial visitations to Earth and personal experiences. I have another YouTube channel with interviews and more.
