21st Century Social Entrepreneurship

We all wonder where the world is heading. We see many things that need changing and few who are engaged in the positive efforts that make change possible. Social entrepreneurship is on the rise. SEED SPOT, a Phoenix-based co-working and incubator space, is doing just that – creating positive change. They are doing it on multiple levels simultaneously through their leadership, mentoring and social-entrepreneurship programs that create jobs and benefit the community.

When you walk into the space, an entire floor of a high-rise in central Phoenix, the first thing one notices is the sprawling work space area with the notable signage (see photo) front and center. It is the epitome of a collaborative environment where budding entrepreneurs and possibilities coagulators bring people, places and things into a new order that empowers each entrepreneur. The opportunities to stretch and grow, both personally and professionally, bring entrepreneurs and the help they need for launching and growing their business together in a wonderful symbiosis.

The team includes CEO and Co-founder, Courtney Klein; Director of Entrepreneur Initiatives, C’pher Gresham; Director of Development, Tabitha Branscome; and Operations Manager, Corinn Perry, among others, who demonstrate that good things can happen when the right components can be brought together and shared openly. Their programs bring together community leaders, corporate supporters and mentors that provide an excellent foundation for business and community development.

It is the author’s opinion that this organization is poised to grow exponentially. It is obvious from their success in the community that their leadership methodology is working. Truly, collaborative alliances are key factors in developing processes for positive change in local environments. No doubt over the next decade SEED SPOT will have a profound effect on Arizona. In order to change the current social architecture of our country, efforts like theirs are imperative to facilitate people, places and things toward positive change. This is just the beginning of a large-scale change in how business is done in America.

It is also the opinion of the author that examples like SEED SPOT need representation in both large and small communities around the country. How fast this happens will depend largely on public support and local/national leadership that also aligns with the goals and objectives of positive change through rebuilding our economy with sustainable methodologies. These kinds of efforts deserve our attention and support. Our communities and country will benefit and demonstrate that America is truly a world leader for positive change. It has been questionable to date.

The Most Common Fear

be successfulWhat do you think is the most common fear in business today? Fear of failure? Fear of success? Fear of dissolution? Fear of the market? Fear of regulations? Fear of whistle blowers? According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, 19 million people have specific phobias, such as crossing bridges or tunnels; 15 million have a social phobia, e.g., public speaking; and 2 million have agoraphobia, when sufferers avoid places where they previously had a panic attack. Those who have one phobia likely have others too. (Forbes-Allison Van Dusen, 12.14.06, 12:01 AM ET)

Now these are common personal fears, but what about how those translate into the business environment? It is this writer’s opinion that the most common fear is ‘losing control.’ Years of project management and organizational observations edify this perception and it shows up most commonly as micro-management or the feeling that you have to ‘do it all.’ The lack of trust in the leadership/management team diminishes their ability to perform. Oftentimes the opportunity to develop a strong management team never appears because of the ‘energy’ of the leader/owner/CEO. How are you ‘controlling’ those around you? Do you carry unspoken and unfulfilled expectations of your cohorts? What are they?

The answers to the latter questions are the first things you need to put on the table. The expectations and questions that evolve from the discussion will literally set you free inside. That may be uncomfortable at first because you’ve never done it before, never allowed yourself to be vulnerable in sharing for fear that you might hurt someone’s feelings maybe. Or you think you might have expectations that are too high. If you never voice them, how can you expect any kind of commitment to them? Can you match them with your own expectations of your personal performance? Oh my…. you might fail. You might make mistakes.

What is interesting is the anxiety-driven decision-making process is obviously not the best practice for management, let alone for the survival of the company. The mental constructs for the organizational development often don’t see the need for making sense common – jobarchy – the job/project is the boss and everyone wins. The ‘anxious’ feeling is often misinterpreted and mismanaged in the ‘flow’ of optimal experience. Quite serendipitously engaged, this same feeling often is the same as the ‘creative spirit’ showing up in consciousness. It actually shows up in the body’s sensations first.

Now, there is a choice when the feeling shows up. Anxiety results in being afraid, angry, ignorant and immobile in the process of making sense common and providing good leadership decisions. The paradox is that same feeling opens the door to change, of doing things more congruent with flow only the experience is lacking validation because of past choices. The challenge to change appears and invites participation. Is the perception of control that important when it stifles the possibilities for growth and escalation of revenue?

People naturally want to do the right thing right when supported in the workplace, whatever the function. Happy people get more done in less time with less supervision and often reduce costs with value engineering choices that better use resources, both human and material. As a leader, you have to be vulnerable. The paradox of being vulnerable is that it allows the inner strengths of your team to emerge. Your business SWOTT has just taken and evo-leap with the new skill set capacity for application you’ve invited to the party.

Let’s look briefly at what others have said about this process. Peter Senge states, “Learning disabilities are tragic in children, but they are fatal in organizations. Because of them, few corporations live even half as long as a person – most die before they reach the age of forty.” The anxiety model keeps you from execution, the most critical part of leadership. Larry Bossidy writes, “Many people regard execution as detail work that’s beneath the dignity of a business leader. That’s wrong. To the contrary, it’s a leader’s most important job.”

NOW is the most important time you can engage as a leader. The desire for control takes you out of the present moment because it does two things that divides your attention. First, you think of past failures and undesirable results. Next, you move into some future view of mixed-messages that craft an equally dismal result if certain things don’t happen. How is that effective management? You’ve got the team, right? So let them go and do what you’ve hired them to do, just make sure they’ve got the resources to execute your plans.

Your strategic planning needs to have the buy-in from all your team, your organization cannot perform well when the plan is nebulous or without specific action items assigned to each component of the plan. Years of facilitating projects, from community events to multi-million dollar product lines, public events and construction projects have demonstrated that clear codes of ethics, mission statements, goals with objectives, issue resolution action procedures and work breakdown structures with a schedule make for smoothing out the bumps in the road to success. Let go of your fears and ask for help from your team.

For entrepreneurs this process is a little different because you need the help of outside resources. The critical needs are addressed in your business plan, a flexible document that is your roadmap to success. If you don’t have one, it’s hard to manage the details and the desire for control is exacerbated because all the details are in your head or loosely detailed in notes or charts around your workspace. Take the time to craft a plan, put your business on the path it deserves so that you can solicit help to achieve your dream. If you need help, that’s where people like me come in to take your full color dream and help you turn it into a black and white system for execution.

If you do have a plan, share it. You’d be surprised how the natural law of attraction can draw the people you need to execute it. There are a growing number of organizations with helpful people that can provide classes and workshops, office space and networking opportunities that can energize your passion and purpose in achieving your dream, too. Check out The Vault in Colorado for a great model.

Planetary Citizens

OnePlanet“Our mission must be to create a global community of shared responsibilities, shared benefits, and shared values. The new focus will require all of us to think about the how, and to find new ways to take action to solve the global issues that none of us can tackle alone.”  Foreward: how– Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything. That title speaks to this moment and our lives.

PlanetaryCitizens.net’s mission is to create and nurture positive change in the world. We hope to give you pertinent information and relevant facts in the process. Donald Keys, speech writer for U Thant in the 60s, coined the phrase Planetary Citizen on the way to creating The New World Alliance. The Occupy Movement is a global announcement of dissatisfaction in leadership and a call for change. Our plan is to showcase people, places and things that are contributing to the process of establishing a new world order of harmony among people and planet. We understand the term ‘new world order‘ has mixed emotional perspectives. Our world needs a new order.

A ‘new world order’ does not mean the continuation of the current status quo and control of the world economy by the corporatocracy, although one necessarily leads to the other over time. A true ‘new world order’ is emerging as humanity peers into the depths of what keeps us afraid, angry, ignorant and immobile and transcends all such notions. The late Khigh Dhiegh offers his version of the Planetary Citizen pledge in encouragement to us all. The Shift Movement’s Wheel of Co-Creation is just one example of engaging systemic change in a holistic fashion.

Our PlaneteryCitizens.net executive summary invites participation with phenomenal results upon execution. It is a brilliant and timely solution to self-organization through showcasing people, places and things aligned with the new global ethic of planetary citizenship. Our model is an example of the shift from Ego to WEgo, an evo-leap in behavior empowered by the challenge to change from selfishness to selflessness. We intend to align with the newly released ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards and encourage their wide-spread use in 21st Century business practices. Harmony among people and planet is the successful negotiation and transcendence of the chaos we’re experiencing into a new world order of accountability and responsibility toward human and planetary needs for sustainability.

We cite evidence of the need and solutions available from world servers throughout academia, economic restructuring, organizational development, new social architecture, scientific discovery, and technological advances that appear to be pointing toward an emerging order from the chaos of our ignorance. We consider that humanity has reached this state of affairs through the best efforts of those whom have led our development. We honor those who came before us, but we have reached a time for new focus and work ethics that match our desire for change.

There has been a lack of consideration of the long-term effects of poor resource management and lack of sustainability. We have not learned the laws of nature. Change is inevitable; we can engage it through a collaborative response.how – Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything is an excellent book everyone should read. We produced a promo for a television show decades ago that has a similar message. Who?, unfortunately, didn’t get much traction back then.

We have a challenge to change – a shift from prior behaviors. Our existing systems need a reboot, a refreshing of focus toward life-friendly notions that move us beyond liabilities, limitations andexcuses. The Valley of the Sun Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development presented their annual conference in 2010 with the theme: “The Shift: Challenge to Change – removing liabilities, limitation and excuses in the workplace.” If the training and development world are sharing the message, our world is about to change dramatically from the subtle shifts in behavior. A new attitude emerges.

Where are we headed?

Our goal is to create an environment here that empowers each visitor to engage their passion for local and global action and/or service in the 21st century. At first glance we may appear like just another voice singing to the choir. Eventually you will see we are a demonstration of collaborative action, based on the accepted standards of humanitarian service organizations and the notion of making sense common. Instead of fighting for attention, we deliver it.

We’re garnering attention and focus on systemic shifts that support a holistic global world view, empowering the diversity toward unity of purpose – a better world for us all. We are developing a comprehensive internal solution using an ISO 26000-based questionnaire and protocols for social responsibility. Application of this tool empowers the systemic shift, mitigating resistance to change and buy-in from leadership and throughout an organization.

Many people are at work in this great effort; from the trenches to the mountaintops wisdom is being shared on- and off-line. Concerted effort and arduous collaboration has been done to create the documents below, so we begin there. What evolves is our actions in alignment with these global efforts. Would you like to be involved in this production?

As we progress and our reach increases through the personal, professional and social networks available our efforts will culminate in the building of a model village that synergizes sustainable development principles with a new understanding of social architecture that empowers excellence in all we do. Like Einstein revealed, we cannot fix a system with the tools that created it. Facebook, LinkedIn, ecademy and others provide opportunity and are underutilized for promoting business and social change.

What are we using?

World standards are evolving. Community humanitarian action fueled by economic, educational, social and technological needs can be more effectively engaged by planetary citizens; Cultural Creatives turned tenacious trades-persons. We suggest an initial document the serves to provide a consistent intentional level of compliance and/or service. This document, the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards, was initiated by representatives from over 90 countries. It serves as a working document for encouraging intentional action of companies and corporations toward socially responsible action. Communication of intention is a great place to start and you can get your Draft Copy here.

The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is also a primary document that provides a code of ethics for general behavior. Humankind is diverse across many perspectives, yet we consider all to be planetary citizens and as such would benefit greatly from the wisdom of this declaration. We can see that maligned resources, poor fiscal management and repressed populations have created near chaos in the world. We support making sense in the promotion of responsible activity throughout all existing systems, creating a new world order of harmony among people and planet. Our internet brothers and sisters, friends and relatives help create a thoughtmosphere of good will.

What is in it for you?

As we grow into the mission and vision of Planetary Citizens, you will have access to a wealth of information; people, places and things that support harmony among people and planet. If you are adept at searching the Web you can find resources on your own, but we’ve made it easier to garner more with less time spent. You will gain access to resources that embrace a new millennium mindset and remain practical and pragmatic in the bridging of cultures, religions, political notions and world service. In short, you can find something of relevance for just about any topic regarding planetary citizens…. YOU.

Are we really one?

Are we really one?

Is this a question we ask in our daily deliberations? If we do, what do our answers reflect? How do we respond in our thoughts and actions on a moment to moment basis?

Amidst the daily travails of tending to our relationships on personal and professional levels, the question might never arise. Some years ago, nearly 36 now, I had a near death experience that changed the way I viewed life and set me firmly on the path of inquiry. I became and eduholic in the trust sense, I dug deep within me to bring out the knowledge we are supposed to have access to according to everything I’ve read and studied. Have you found the latter to be true as well?

The more I questioned, the more fun life became and opportunities to explore what I could do continued to knock on my door. I excelled in school and sports when I was young and coagulated possibilities across a number of industries as I continued to develop skills. My early marriage failed, though, and hardened my heart toward money as a result. Twenty three years after the divorce and I’m finally recognizing just how deeply wounded I was, heal myself, and creatively open to ascend from the pit. Honestly, I would not have grown to know the secrets of relationship had I healed earlier.

So, back to the question: Are we really one?

To me, because I am an assimilation of my experiences, I hear that question from a different place than most. Beyond the profound personal and professional relationships I’ve developed over the years, there has been a part of me that has remained an observer. I had a recent experience that might make that a little clearer.

On the morning of Good Friday last, seems so fitting now, I was breaking up the lox to add to the eggs and then pour into the sauteed onions simmering on the stove. I was enjoying the moment when suddenly I felt a wave of depression so deep that it caught all of my attention. I mused for a moment, wondering what the heck that was all about. I turned to the stove to pour the mixture into the skillet and noticed that my body was beginning to go limp. I could feel it slipping away and was completely conscious of it, like we were about to separate.

I called for Robin (I knew I was going to head for the bed and our breakfast needed tending) and headed for the bedroom. I was just able to get to the bed and sprawl upon it. I could hear perfectly and was able to speak as well, yet the rest of my body wasn’t cooperating, nor did I particularly want it to at the time. I was rather enjoying the sensation as I was still fully conscious and not afraid of anything.

As I lay there while Robin was tending to breakfast, my eyes were closed. In my field of sight, I noticed a fuzzy thin circle of light that was pulsing in and out, smaller to larger from a ball of light in the center to the circle that took up about 80% of my screen. I watched it for a number of cycles, checking my breathing rate compared to it (different) and feeling my heart beat as I watched. It was really pretty relaxing and when you’ve lost the need to control your body, it was quite freeing to say the least.

I can only assume that, because of the waves of cosmic energy we’re encountering as we move further into the Photon Belt, we can avail ourselves as open-hearted humans seeking to know more about how to be spiritual; connected to everything in ways we are only beginning to experience. There are myriads of folks around the planet who have congruent views and mobius operandi of sorts. I checked in to see if others had similar experiences that day and, oddly enough, many did. Some even experienced their ‘wave’ at the same time. Interesting….

How did we arrive at being available, let alone aware, of this type of possibility? We began tracing the origins of religion to determine where the incongruous or missing data was located. Certainly what we have today is far from the root of the word ‘religion’ – reunion with God. Isn’t that ‘oneness,’ though? A reunion with God? How does that work?

Since my upbringing was Christian, I’ll proffer the findings that led to an interesting conclusion. How were we created? Before Adam and Eve was Adam and Lilith. The latter was a story of equality; created from the same material, at the same time and with equal power. So that cleared the whole patriarchal nonsense up. Constantine did a great job, uniting religion and politics with harsh punishment for those who didn’t follow the faith. Most of our current data is skewed on purpose, leading us astray rather than home.

Then there was the question of Satan. Where did that come from? A considerable amount of research and time showed that the Greek ‘thetan’ was the culprit. It means ‘thinker.’ So our adversary is our mind. Now THAT makes sense. Many years later I had a conversation with Jesus (yes, it’s possible) and he verified that he fought with his mind and not some external tempter. His battle and fears are the same as mine, not being quiet enough to hear well and miss the call for fulfilling my divine mission here on Earth.

So what was that all about? Jesus was different. He demonstrated the connection with the divine and encouraged others to do so as well. He called attention to any lack of integrity, liability, limitation or excuse for limiting their relationship with life and love. Ultimately, he led the way for us to understand that death is not inevitable and that we truly can transcend it just as he did, such as his words to Thomas, “Don’t ye know that ye are god as I am god?” I think that qualifies as oneness, eh?

Now that led me to wondering about Lucifer. According to the records, he was the Most High Angel of Light and Music. Knowing the parameters of quality contained in light and music, there seems little to on likelihood that one of that status would abandon their post. I learned that ‘condensed’ was used in place of ‘fallen’ in some of the ancient texts. Wow, the light went off. Every pun intended there. Lucifer led us into form through condensing our celestial consciousness into these bodies. It has been so long ago that no one remembers.

However, Jesus example of taking us back home – returning to the Father – makes wonderful sense when you look at the ‘cycle’ of incarnation and ascension. No doubt it could take many lifetimes for a consciousness to regain the connections to the finer vibrations after being so dense as a carbon-based life-form. In case that raised an eyebrow, 666 is the atomic number… then number of man, revealed through science. Could be arguable, but you’ve got to admit it all makes sense from a perspective of ONE.

Individuality is not threatened by this perspective at all. In fact, it is encourage through free will, yet there are apparently some blueprints on the soul level that manage the operation of each. Astrology gives us a hint of our potential and provides us with parameters that most closely fit our character and personality in alignment with the stars. Since we come from the stars, stardust, it might make sense to have a working knowledge or your arrangement. Even without it, you can notice how you’ve developed knowledge, skill sets and vocational aptitude over time. If you hate your job, then you probably aren’t aligned with your chart. If you love what you are doing, then the opposite is most likely.

What about business, though? How does that work? Most recently, the International Standards Organization came out with the ISO 26000 standards for social responsibility. The more businesses, companies and corporations can align their behavior with these standards, the better chance we have of creating a new world order of harmony among people and planet and creating harmony from the chaos.

Curious Sorts…. New World Standards

We all seek to understand exactly who we are in order to figure out what we are to do, I think. Have we become too myopic for our own good? Are we capable of shifting if that is the case? How deep is the rabbit hole and how deep can we go in our assessment of what needs to be done and do it? What does the lexicon: Jobarchy bring up for you? Does it sound like the job is the boss? Hmmm… that aligns with service to others -Ra. We find out who we really are in the process of serving. Wow, sounds like the ultimate win/win.

There is a sense of restlessness among the American people. Something is happening in our nation that appears manipulated, even to the casual observer, and we feel helpless in its wake. It amazes the author that a powerful society, led by corporate giants, military elite, and political prominence has gone unchecked for so long. Some time ago, individuals were made sovereign in the United States yet the sovereignty, voting rights, are only used by about a third of those able to vote. What happened?

With respect to all my relatives, it is quite well known through several variations on the theme that the US is supposed to lead by example into the Golden Age, or whatever we choose to call it now. Right? “When the people lead, the leaders will follow” is a button that I have on my favorite jacket. It is truly an honor to be amongst the initiators of the AC. Its commandry complement is a ONEderful process to behold. I feel good about people returning to love after feeling apart. Kinda makes your eyes water a little, huh?

Many voices are echoing a concern for people and planet, renewable and sustainable resources, and the shift needed in our ‘global village’ consciousness. Diversity issues are rampant in the enlightened community still; affecting our ability to perform. I wonder if there is Viagra for the soul? Sheeple, unsuspecting of the adverse effects of cutting edge advertising and marketing, continue to bicker about insignificant issues in the grand scheme of things, yet, will not raise an eyebrow of concern when we spend billions of dollars on foreign aid in a stalled economy. Pointing fingers and crying wolf is certainly not an option. Who listens anyway?

Why not just develop solutions with all the new ‘best practices’ of management philosophy applied to holistic understanding? Begs the question of naivety doesn’t it? Maybe it is better to not know what cannot be done so that we can co-create what answers the situations that are staring us in the face?

I believe when we focus on those things we will experience a wonderful unfoldment of our individual identities far brighter that we ever dreamed possible. By surrendering our lives to the cause, we gain them back exponentially. Kinda funny how that works, huh? We all recognize the spirals of coming into awareness and because of that we become quite forgiving of others, and our own, faults. We’re all doing our best to find common ‘space’ so to speak.

There is a new collective evolving in society- the Cultural Creatives. The Cultural Creatives, a new book by Paul Ray, Ph.D., and Sherry Ruth Anderson, Ph.D., based on research sponsored by the Institute of Noetic Sciences and The Fetzer Institute, estimates that 50 million adult Americans resonate with the emerging new values. The following are just a few:

• Spirituality and personal growth    • Self-esteem and self-empowerment

• Community    • Social healing, reconciliation and conflict resolution

This collective is growing and becoming more restless as lives are lost unnecessarily, through little wills of men. Feminine consciousness and meaningful work are more traits the collective shares. Men can think with just one head when they are secure in themselves. Together constructed plans, projects, and proposals are being shared that utilize our collective passion to love and be loved, beginning with ourselves and expanding into our workplaces, businesses, organizations and schools.

This movement is developing a network of its own throughout the World Wide Web. Where will it go? How can we all have a hand in its direction and find a place for ourselves in the process? There is an area within Human Resources that seeks to answer those questions and more. It is called Organizational Development, or OD in jargon terms. There is a science emerging that reveals how humans with spiritual understanding (connectedness of all things) actually mold and shape their environments to a greater degree of integration, even practiced as diversity initiatives in larger corporations.

Be The Dream is just one group that fits into the collective, offering a variety of concepts, plans, and resources for evolving our society in a big way. As much time as it took to gather information, write and edit, post and build a website to support the effort, it is pale by comparison to the exponential effect from the affect of the individuals devoting their lives to this paradigm shift, this change agentry within the global village. Many unsung heroes and heroines spend countless hours constructing and creating marvelous works on the Web.

Who is guiding, leading, and following? Is any of that happening? How can we utilize our group soul better? As a great man once said, “Change comes from within.” What does it look like when it gets out? Imagine if all our hearts’ desires and dreams expressed in cyberspace and inner-space started leaking out into our everyday space. WOW… worlds of wonder!

Here is one way that may be happening sooner than later. The International Organization for Standards (ISO) has already garnered corporate attention with the ISO 9000 quality management standards. A new and improved social responsibility standard, ISO 26000, was introduced after years of development. It’s premise, to be a first step in helping all types of organization in both the public and private sectors to consider implementing ISO 26000 as a way to achieve the benefits of operating in a socially responsible manner.

From iso.org:

ISO 26000 provides guidance for all types of organization, regardless of their size or location, on:

  1. Concepts, terms and definitions related to social responsibility
  2. Background, trends and characteristics of social responsibility
  3. Principles and practices relating to social responsibility
  4. Core subjects and issues of social responsibility
  5. Integrating, implementing and promoting socially responsible behaviour throughout the organization and, through its policies and practices, within its sphere of influence
  6. Identifying and engaging with stakeholders
  7. Communicating commitments, performance and other information related to social responsibility.

ISO 26000 is intended to assist organizations in contributing to sustainable development. It is intended to encourage them to go beyond legal compliance, recognizing that compliance with law is a fundamental duty of any organization and an essential part of their social responsibility. It is intended to promote common understanding in the field of social responsibility, and to complement other instruments and initiatives for social responsibility, not to replace them.

In applying ISO 26000, it is advisable that an organization take into consideration societal, environmental, legal, cultural, political and organizational diversity, as well as differences in economic conditions, while being consistent with international norms of behaviour. [end]

Now we have the opportunity to rise above our differences and focus on what is important to all of us in order to move forward as a planetary civilization.

Spectrum Academy – Education Reform

The video was put together in 2004 for introducing Spectrum Academy.

Restoring cultural pride, personal hope and inspiration for living.

Vision: Spectrum Academy leads learning and living communities in assisting ‘at-risk’ youths to heal their emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual wounds which create profound and positive changes in our youth population.

Spectrum Academy is a model peer-community that helps youth find restored hope and success in their lives through holistic education reform. A peer-community is a community based on shared support, giving and receiving help founded on key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful.

It is imperative that we begin in Arizona, where per capita student dollars are the lowest in the nation despite it being one of the highest growth rates in the nation.

Spectrum Academy uses a holistic approach to education, through providing a fun-to-learn-in space where youth can heal their emotional wounds and learn positive habits. Even science has proven how all things are connected, which has been known by Indigenous peoples for centuries. So why aren’t we using more of this knowledge now?

Mission: Provide an alternative state-of-the-art holistic educational and living environment for youth 14 – 21 using proven programs that result in healthy and productive young adults who contribute to society.

At-risk youth find it hard to make sense of their world. Some feel they are being drugged (by their parents and schools) so adults can deal with them. Others lives are impoverished from a lack of parental presence yet they are supposed to know how to live appropriately.

The latter often end up on the streets, in group homes, incarcerated, or worse. What kind of a message are we giving them? We feel we have an answer to help change the pattern of abuse. We’ve done extensive research and have relative experience from the campus and classrooms of several districts and charter schools already.

Spectrum Academy combines a charter school, residential treatment component, and a community technology/data center within a living environment to empower youth to change their direction toward success. A peer community council engages the drive to discovery of how to live and work together in harmony.

Depression is the number one factor that keeps youth from learning, so they need help with managing emotions and understanding human behavior. Once they are available to learn, the school lessons and staff assist their growth and understanding of being part of a healthy community.

Holistic education is concerned with the connectedness of all things and nurtures this understanding in youth, providing a path to a healthy and productive lifestyle. Traditional educational frameworks are like slow-moving dinosaurs in the need for changing our educational delivery systems. Spectrum Academy provides a solid yet flexible framework to manage the challenging and changing needs with style and grace.

Sustainability is achieved through the synergistic union of a community technology center, subscription-based Web services, cottage industry development, and community shops. The energy required will be provided by leading green technology incorporated in the curriculum and construction build out.

As the public awareness of Spectrum Academy grows, the subscription and e-commerce features of the data center provide the financial resources for Spectrum Academy. Cottage industry development and strategically placed storefronts on the perimeter of the site creates the personal and professional bridge for youth and their community. Community connections create sustainable successes. This ‘sustainability’ piece is an addition to previous educational models.

Alliances and partnerships with industry leaders bridge 21st Century learners with 21st Century technology, assisting youth to evolve and facilitate a healthier global culture. This proactive approach to addressing the growing concern of a healthy society creates utility in applying best practices across multiple disciplines, maximizing funds and building a learning organization that can meet shifting demands in service delivery and community support. We talk about building a better world. This is a step. Will you help?

A recent needs assessment performed by a collaborative of Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert, Arizona city governments found that the public holds youth and family programs as a top priority in service delivery. Strategic civil planning community development initiatives need to be in place to make this happen.

This can only happen with your help in spreading the word and garnering support. It is worth going viral with today’s web technology and social media. You can help make it happen, right here, right now. We’ve got groups forming and Facebook and LinkedIn. Blog about us, here and everywhere. You can help us through the process, too.

Be The Dream… Think about that phrase for a moment. Let it sink in. No doubt it brings up all kinds of good feelings and images. Possibly you allowed yourself to escape into a nice fantasy for a moment, maybe including your own children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Some children do not even know they can dream….yet. Spectrum Academy can assist many challenged youth to new heights in self-esteem, academic and post-secondary or professional success, and even achieving new dreams.

Beyond our own skills and talent, this solution comes from a much deeper place within us all. You may find congruence in your own considerations of this dilemma and its resolution using state-of-the-art technology across the spectrum of needs.

Our administrative, construction, educational, fiscal and management contacts grow daily. We need your help to put them in play. Our activities are completely congruent with best practices, completely transparent and transcendent of current models. As Einstein related some time ago, a problem cannot be fixed by the same tools that created it.

Cosmic Conundrum: Who Am I?

CosmicConundrum-21st-KindleAuthor Bruce ‘Zen’ Benefiel offers a healthy dose of spiritual wisdom for an “out-of-this-world” reader experience. Some dynamics which make this book a helpful guide are the author’s out-of-body experiences, his education and unique intelligence, combined with (but not limited to) an aptitude for research, diverse content synthesis and organization, complete with workbook opportunities for reflection on the provided material.

Zen embraces psychological, scientific, intuitive and mystical explanations, offering practical exercises for meditation, releasing emotional blockages, mentorship, deepening the experience of “flow,” and more. Where relevant, Zen gives simple and effective definitions of spiritual terms for comprehension, and methodical processes for readers to achieve similar results with the suggested exercises. The author’s knowledge of mental-emotional transformational methodologies makes for well-explored and deeply penetrating lessons on the self-help topics.

Woven by the common thread of his mystical experiences, Zen continually provides insightful logic regarding the ultimately inevitable connections among science and spirituality, connecting within, and galactic citizenry. Meaningful personal stories from the author’s physical life experience are steeped in wisdom. That said; the author’s emotional vulnerability is a great asset to humanizing the mystical experiences he lives out.

Zen’s authentic sharing creates a good foundation for us (the readers) to contemplate and realize the unique reality to which we have embraced and have been exposed. The book reveals compelling evidence that we can each go beyond our normal waking consciousness to connect in higher and finer ways. The material provided ties into an overall cosmic picture, complex enough to stretch our ideas of reality and cosmic responsibility while, at the same time, practical enough to not lose accessibility in the lessons offered.

Ethereal experiences are occasionally scoffed at due to popular misconceptions of an ethereal person’s resulting incongruence with normal reality (aka, “airy-fairy”). However, sound reasoning and pragmatic advice ensure that readers like us can learn from the offerings even if we aren’t able to relate the material in its entirety. For example, Zen offers practical guidance on the most basic and often overlooked necessity of balancing and resolving our emotions. Since such healthy (and practical) behaviors aren’t yet common sense for mankind, we could clearly argue that not only is a person’s reality highly relative to the beholder, but reality is also highly relative to how many people are beholding it. In other words, common sense is relative to what a group considers common. Even then, a high commonality doesn’t necessarily indicate truth.

The book finishes with a long anticipated, full-blown explanation of the author’s involvement with the Ashtar Command and galactic citizenry at large. It completes with thought-provoking inquiries that are artfully designed, not to coerce, but to make the reader ponder their own spiritual and galactic responsibilities. At minimum, the existing platform from which the author invites the reader to make positive considerations for spiritual living is a love-based one. If you are a fan of the Ashtar Command and the Celestial Alliances, you’ll like this book even better. Regardless of what you believe or experience, this versatile book can be of benefit to you.

Discovering Our Sunship?

celest-150x150A sun is still a mystery of spiritual and physical presence, an enigma in the intelligent design scenario. Three suns – thrice the mystery. An a physical level, hydrogen and helium are at work. Hydrogen is the only element bereft of electrons. Just a side note btw… Carbon’s atomic arrangement: 666 (hint.. hint)

The Great Central Sun is a ubiquitous reference in esoteric philosophy. Is our central sun actually three suns? In the summer of 1989, while learning a technique developed by William Swygaard (sp) in the 1950s, I was privileged to enjoy some interesting explorations in the dynamics of human consciousness. Swygaard had written a book describing two techniques for exploring the depths of our psychospiritual composition.

The two techniques are called Multi-level Awareness and Multi-plane Awareness and his book was originally one of two covers and no back, meaning the two were in one, much like ‘Doors of Perception’ and ‘Heaven and Hell’ by Aldous Huxley. These processes, although facilitated by a trained guide, allowed deeper individual experiences to evolve within the framework of the process.

By this I mean only vague prompts were given to direct the consciousness in a particular direction, based on the responses given in answer to the questions of the facilitator. The experience was totally spontaneous from the individual’s perspective from that point onward, allowing a freer exploration of the worlds within. The purpose of the facilitator was more as a prompter and recorder; to maintain a verbal link with the experiencer so that reflections could be made afterward. In this way there was some record for reviewing for the experiencer.

This was definitely a metaphysical experience, yet it seems to correlate to much of the scientific research and referencing of the ‘Holographic Universe’ of Michael Talbot’s discovery and sharing. In fact, this paradigm has been present in several physicist’s and scientist’s exploration and revelatory considerations.

Among them [paradigm shifters] are Alain Aspect, David Bohm, Karl Pribham, and Karl Lashley. Complexologists at the Sante Fe Institute have created yet another theory that the Universe actually seeks to replicate itself, based on their study of the math, physics, and science surrounding cosmology, quantum environments, and thermodynamics to name a few.

Striving to understand how our universe works leads us to better understand how the human enigma works in its interaction and living amongst the stars. Apparently instantaneous ‘faster than light’ communication between individuals, as well as brain cells, is a reality and violates the long-held notion that Einstein fostered: no communication can travel faster than the speed of light.

The information age, along with scientific exploration made possible through discovery and development of new paradigms and technology, brings with it the ability of man to question everything he/she has learned about humans to date. This includes being able to cross-reference, if you will, the scientific and spiritual manifestos of our history on planet Earth. So let me take you on a little journey. You don’t have to believe it was real, although I will do my best to relate it objectively.

On this particular afternoon, I was in process of preparing for one of these multi-level awareness journeys. I began by doing some deep breathing relaxation to prepare for the process. I was feeling my body and mind relax when all of a sudden, Zephyr, a guide I’d known since my late teens, showed up and gave me that look. You know the one, where you know you are about to have something very profound happen and you let go of anything else on your mind. So it was. He simply motioned with his arm and said, “Come.” And so I did.

I exited my body with such ease that I hardly felt the departure. Now the interesting thing is that by practicing this technique, I had the ability to describe what I was seeing and hearing along the way. As soon as Zephyr showed up, I was communicating my experience to the would be facilitator, who was now about to tested in their ability to respond in a much different way. I’m sure it had to have been pretty weird sitting in the chair next to me that day! I had to explain who Zephyr was later, so let me do so now.

I’d met Zephyr while studying metaphysics with a small group of explorers in college in my late teens. We all read many books as well and I was in process of reading Carlos Castaneda’s works. I think I was on Journey to Ixtlan at the time. I remember one of the consistent threads of other spiritual works being the existence of spirit guides or allies, as he called them. I had inquired within, through prayer, regarding the existence of and ability to communicate with a guide or ally or guardian angel if you will that was ‘assigned’ to me.

During a meditation one afternoon about a week later the name Zephyr and a face of an Indian appeared in my mind instantaneously. He appeared as an ancient Indian, with eyes so deep and simultaneously cold and warm, peering into my depths of my soul, yet with respect of my being.

I was able to do some research later, assisted by a friend that was an adept at automatic writing, and found that his incarnation was over 20,000 years ago in what is now the Southwest US. I’ve had numerous occasions to journey with him since. If you’ve had similar experiences you can relate. If you haven’t, well just consider it a great story.

This was a bit different because there was now a witness to record my experience as I related it. As I exited my body, he became a sphere of light with his face as the only feature. I first noticed his profile, with that large Indian nose… rather reminiscent of Jimmy Durante. I found it a bit humorous and told him so. Nothing can be hidden in those realms as even the fleeting thoughts are as apparent as turning a light on in a darkened room. So as I was entertaining myself at his expense he turned and faced me with that look again.

I asked him where we were going and he only responded that I would find out shortly. He began asking questions of my spiritual path to date and what I’d learned since the last time we journeyed. I could see faintly the points of light, elongated, as we were whizzing by at an incredible speed. I suppose the only reference would be the speed of thought?

According to the Urantia Book, an interesting exploration of the structure of creation, the speed of thought is approximately 841 trillion miles per second. I’ve never seen a reference to the speed of thought anywhere else. Whether or not that is correct we can accept that it is indeed quite fast, much faster than the speed of light.

In answer to my question of direction, Zephyr told me just to wait and see. I probed again and his silence was absolute. I then spoke to him of other things that I had experienced lately and he responded with analysis, some sick humor, and engaged me in some great bantering that left me feeling very humble after having some pride in the depth of understanding I thought I’d been expressing to him. I think we probably all feel that way when our bubbles are burst by our elders, bringing us back to a humble reality.

One of the aspects of the Path is to be so rooted in one’s own knowing as they are expressing it, yet being able instantly to let go of the attachment of its truth in order for further depths of understanding to occur. Sometimes the knowing shifts and must be left behind as merely a stone on the path. At other times, the knowing evolves into a much deeper acknowledgment of ‘what is’ in the conundrum of ‘What is reality?’ This bantering lasted for about eight minutes, according to the facilitator, as the arrival at our destination brought it to an abrupt close.

I suppose that the constant recounting of conversation helped to anchor congruent patterns of thought and holographic reality at that point. Very humbling nonetheless. The discussion also had a profound affect on the facilitator’s life as it verified some inklings he’d been entertaining as possible answers to some of his own questions about the nature of creation and reality as we know it.

I noticed a slowing of momentum and as soon as I did, I felt an abrupt halt. We had arrived at a solar system that was beautiful beyond belief. If you’ve seen Contact and Jodie Foster’s character as she witness the beauty of space you can imagine the feeling of awe that overcame me then. We had stopped outside the perimeter of the largest orbit of the dozen or so planets that revolved around three huge suns that appeared to be equidistant in the center of this system.

Again, the sight of this brought up the feeling of awe that came from such an indescribably beautiful display, much like the movie ‘Contact,’ only this was nearly a decade before its making. I only had a moment to take in the beauty before I heard a voice that felt like the combination of the suns speaking as one. I listened intently. The sensation was like a river of energy flowing through me. In response to the natural curiosity and questions I must have been thinking, the voice (s) said, “We are not only your forefathers, we are also the forefathers of your solar system.”

I felt such a deep connection to those words and the resonance of truth that I was speechless for a moment. I wish there was a word to describe it. You get the picture… I was blown away. Zephyr said, “Okay, that’s it, time to go.” It took me a moment to regain composure and I began to want to ask some questions. Zephyr cut me off immediately saying, “No questions now, you’ve got all the information you need. You’ll figure it out.” Rats!

I needed some more feedback. My mind needed more information to process. I argued for a few moments and then gave in to the trip back. He never did respond to those direct questions…damn stoic Indian. He was kind enough to offer some things to ponder, though, which gave me much more than I realized at the time.

Once back in the room and relating the journey to fill in the gaps of my description of the scenery, what I found interesting is that each leg of the journey was consistent. According to the facilitator’s watch the journey of going and coming were about 8 minutes long, which was more than just coincidence it seemed. This would indicate that it was indeed a journey that crossed some major distance at the speed of thought or something similar yet to be measured by modern science.

Just how the actual vehicles became ‘real’ or the method of travel was something I didn’t understand as a repeatable process. I suppose, like any form of journeying, it could be practiced and perfected over time. But, I’m not sure Zephyr would be at my beckon call. In a lot of cases, the event is not necessary to repeat as the impact leaves such a profound experience that lifetimes are spent articulating the findings.

I did feel an unusually high resonance with the idea of these suns being the foundation of our Trinity. Just imagine what this could mean to the developmental theories of creation and our scientific explorations into the depths of material structure. I do know this: it was much more that my feeble brain was able to interpret, yet the imagery, voice, and travel were very real.

I’d been on many journeys to date and this was one of the most profound and potentially rewarding in the development of a cognitive model that removes conjecture and superstition regarding the nature of how we got here. To understand the mechanisms of creation from that point requires some intense study of the internal structure of creation. Metaphysics seeks to explain this in my opinion.

Quantum physics and complexologists are moving closer to explaining the next levels of consciousness in mathematical terms that result in patterns encountered in inner space. Methinks we are on the verge of a Cosmic Evolution. Blessings…

A Brighter View of the Morning Star?

toilet1-223x300In lieu of the ‘nefarious’ postulations presented all over the Web now… What are we really here to do? Might it be to learn to transcend all the riff raff and learn how to get along as a planetary society? After all, we are technically one planet and one people.. right? Then why do we continue to allow separative practices? A better question might be, “How do we re-direct all this energy toward creating a better world?”

I agree that as long as we continue to focus on that which separates people, we will remain separate. Is that what we truly desire? I find that more than distasteful. I find it [continued focus on separation] appalling and not something I spend time [attention is an investment] on in most of my daily deliberations. However, in order to shift attention away from what comes so easily to many (perceptively negative thoughts and feelings) it is far richer to focus on people, places and things that create a joyful sensation from the relationships, productivity and results of developing harmony among people and planet… one action at a time.

Life can be a series of synchronistic and serendipitous moments when we choose to change [make choices toward unity] at every opportunity. In this, a line from Vanilla Sky comes to mind, “Every moment gives us the opportunity to change the rest of our lives.” A recent zen calendar saying (a gift from my beloved) reminded me of such precious presence/presents…”In the realm of human destiny, the depth of man’s questioning is more important that his answers.” A few days later this one appeared, “If enlightenment is not where you are, where do you look?”

I think it is safe to say that there is an awareness of cosmic consciousness condensed into form.. us. Each one of us has the opportunity to recognize our Origin – and to acknowledge that place of Origin in each other. My signature has reflected this place for several decades. I produced and hosted a television show in the early 90s that reflected this place… How we can share ways to overcome the fears that keep us separate and grow to know the secrets of unity – one plane, one people, one mind. Not that we give up individuality in the process. Quite the opposite – we become who we are as complete individuals, destined to live as contributors to a better world – one that works for everyone.

Some say this kind of thinking is idealist and even unrealistic. Others find the consideration of such a new living awareness to be the crux of the matter as everything that is not in alignment with this consciousness seems to be crumbling in our world as you read these words. Our abstinence in participation and responsible actions that command our leaders and each other to stand up and behave like the adults of spiritual understanding we know we must be continually plague our relationships on the ocean of emotion swirling around us now.

I have no control over what you think and feel. I barely have control over my own swirling emotions, thoughts and actions as I strive for congruence with this new living awareness in my own life. I can only encourage others and help where ever asked. I’ve learned that to attempt to assist when uninvited is like dealing with teenagers who think they know everything. The entanglements exemplify the push/pull of attempts to control others… inappropriately. We need to ask better questions.

Some examples of better questions might be: Why am I here? Who am I really? What am I here to be/do/have? Where do I best belong? How can I best assist and grow? When is the best moment to serve? Will you (Source) show me, with unquestionable impeccability, how to be in the precious present?

Just my two and a half-sense.
